There are many ways to help The Warrior’s Refuge in our goal to end veteran homelessness. One of the easiest is every year on your birthday, through a simple action on Facebook. Today we’ll recap our mission and explain one of the ways you can use social media to help in our fight.

Almost 100,000 veterans are currently homeless across the country, and another 1.5 million of them are at risk of becoming homeless. The Warrior’s Refuge works to help these heroes get back on their feet by giving them shelter, counseling (such as for PTSD), and resources to move forward confidently to a better life. Ultimately we will have space for as many as 120 veterans, assisted by a caring support staff.

A few years ago Facebook established a special new feature, and you may have seen your friends posting “I’m donating my birthday to…” Starting two weeks before the date, Facebook will give you an option to create a fundraiser for a nonprofit organization; you can customize it with a specific message and goal amount. On your birthday, all your friends will receive a notification inviting them to donate to your chosen group. In just a few clicks, they can give you – and ultimately veterans – a meaningful present that lasts far beyond that one day.

Please consider donating your birthday to The Warrior’s Refuge. It could be the gift of a veteran’s lifetime!
