Hello, my name is Alexander Lee and I am the newest Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate to join the Warriors Refuge at the Rally Point office in Alvin. I completed my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2024 at the University of Texas at San Antonio. During my time at UTSA I practiced using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Brief (SBFT) modalities to offer a strength-based, person-centered, and culturally sensitive counseling experience for my clients. I have experience working with adult clients with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders, as well as clients experiencing moderate to severe anxiety and/or depression. I focus on using evidence-based treatment to help clients achieve their treatment goals. I strive to ensure sessions are inviting and collaborative, that clients are well informed about their rights and the potential benefits/risks that may be encountered during sessions so that everyone can make an informed decision on if I am the right counselor for you.

Howdy, nice to meet you! I’m Mariam Hasnain, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate. Mental health is my passion, and I’m here to help you, considering your unique identity. I earned my bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M and my master’s in education focusing on Marriage and Family Therapy from Lamar University.

I chose this path because I want to diversify the field of mental health and understand how our identities shape our experiences. I believe everyone should have access to mental health care, so I work to make it diverse and inclusive. In therapy, I create a safe space where you can freely explore your issues without worrying about being judged. I love seeing my clients grow and overcome challenges together. We’ll work as a team, using your strengths to tackle life’s ups and downs and achieve your goals.

I offer therapy for individuals, couples, and families, specializing in areas like Couples therapy, stress management, anxiety and emotional regulation. In addition to speaking English, I also speak Hindi and Urdu.

If you’re ready to start your journey towards growth and healing, I’m here to support you every step of the way! Let’s work together to make positive changes in your life through culturally sensitive therapy.

At The Warriors Refuge, we are honored to work alongside dedicated volunteers who help us serve veterans facing homelessness, mental health challenges, and recovery journeys. During National Volunteer Week, we want to recognize and thank each person who gives their time, energy, and heart to support our mission. Whether it’s helping with events, mentoring, or simply being there for our veterans, your efforts create a lasting impact. Together, we’re building a stronger, more supportive community for those who served. Thank you for standing beside us.

Are You an Alcoholic? Have you ever wondered if you have an alcohol problem? Well, I’ve found a wonderful screening test on Web MD

Screening Test for Alcohol Use Disorder

In the past year, have you

  • Had times when you drank more or for longer than you meant to?
  • Tried (or wanted to try) multiple times to cut back or stop drinking, but you couldn’t?
  • Spent a lot of time drinking or getting over the effects of alcohol?
  • Felt a strong need, urge, or craving to drink?
  • Found that drinking or its effects kept you from doing work, going to school, or taking care of your family?
  • Continued to drink even when it caused tension with family and friends?
  • Skipped out on or decreased activities you enjoy so you could drink?
  • More than once found yourself doing risky things during or after drinking, like driving or having unsafe sex?
  • Kept drinking even though it made you blackout, feel
  • Sad or anxious, or made another health problem worse?
  • Had to drink more than you once did to get the same effects?
  • Felt withdrawal symptoms from alcohol, like insomnia, shakiness, nausea, or a racing heart?

If you answered yes to any of these, you may have alcohol use disorder.

How much of your life have you wasted on alcohol?

Instead of just existing from day to day…Let’s truly LIVE our life! Get Help! You are worth it!

Stress Awareness Month

7 ways to alleviate stress in your life:

● Keep a journal. Write down the things causing you stress and how you deal with that stress. Notice the things that reduce your stress levels and keep doing them.

● Download an app that teaches relaxation exercises (such as deep breathing or visualization) or tips for practicing mindfulness, which is a psychological process of actively paying attention to the present moment.

● Exercise vigorously for 30minutes, and make sure you are eating healthy, regular meals.

● Develop a sleep routine, and make sure you are getting at least 7 hours of sleep.

● Avoid drinking excess caffeine such as soft drinks or coffee, especially after 3 pm.

● Identify and challenge your negative and unhelpful thoughts.

● Create a support system of people who help you cope in a positive way.

Meeting with a mental health professional can also help you learn new and creative ways of warding off stress
