Secretary Sonni Miller, LCDC

I grew up in various locations due to my father’s service in the Air Force. This meant I attended several schools, but we eventually settled in Alvin, TX, after he left the military. I graduated from Alvin High School in 2005 and later attended Alvin Community College, where I obtained my EMT-A certification in 2016.

In 2020, I returned to college and earned an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Substance Abuse Counseling. I am currently enrolled at Indiana Wesleyan University, pursuing both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Addiction Counseling, with the goal of completing my PhD in Leadership from LSU.

My career has primarily been in the medical field. After receiving my EMT certification, I worked in various hospitals, including Houston Methodist Clear Lake and DeTar Hospital in Victoria, TX. I am still employed with an EMT company called Lightning Extreme, where I assist at motocross events. In 2020, I began my journey as a substance abuse counselor, which has shaped my current path. I have worked with veterans facing substance use disorders at The Warriors Refuge in West Columbia, TX.

Currently, I serve as the program manager for the Youth and Family Services Recovery Team, where we support youth struggling with addiction at The Gulf Coast Center. My career has been an incredible journey, and I am grateful for everything I have learned along the way.

I have been with my husband since December 2009, and we got married in 2016. Together, we have four beautiful children who keep us constantly busy, along with a Border Collie and an outdoor cat that adopted us. We attend church at The Harbor in Friendswood, TX. My dream is to open and maintain a youth residential recovery program in the future, as there are very few locations in Texas, particularly in the Houston area, for teens to get clean and sober.
