BG(R) Mills joins the Board of the Warrior Refuse after 32 years of service with the U.S.
Army, where he serverd in a multitude of operational, staff and command positions, rising to the rank of Brigadier General. Having served some 27 years as a U.S. Army Special Forces Officer, he has an extensive background in U.S. Army, Joint and Combined Special Operations.
BG(R) Mills last assignment was as the Commanding General, Special Operations Command, Korea where he served as the Commanding General for one of five regional Special Operations Commands. The Command consisted of over 100 hand-picked members from Army Special Operation Forces, Navy SEALS and Air Force and Army Special Operations Aviation Units. He had responsibility for planning, execution and supporting of more than 50 major Joint and Combined exercises, the planning and writing of the war plans for the defense of the Korean peninsula, and the command, control and support of all US and UN Special Operations forces committed to Korea.
BG(R) Mills also acted as the Primary Special Operations Forces advisor to the Commanding General, Combined Forces Command, and the Commanding General, Republic of Korea Special Warfare Command.
Some of BG(R) Mills’ other assignments have included Senior member of the U.S. to the Military Observer Group to the United Nations Transitional Authority Cambodia (UNTAC), Command of a U.S. Army Special Forces Battalion and Command of a U.S. Army Special Forces Group, Director of Special Operations and primary instructor at the U.S. Army War College, Chief of Staff and Deputy Commanding General for the U.S. Army Special Operations Command and after returning from Afghanistan, served as the Deputy Director of the Counterterrorism Center (CTC), Central Intelligence Agency.
BG(R) Mills has an extensive background in Pacific, European and African regional areas with experience in both peacetime and wartime engagement to enhance U.S. National Policy. He has conducted numerous high level visits and meetings with Ministers of Defense, Foreign Military Chiefs of Staff and Ambassadors.
BG(R) Mills has served as the Deputy Grand Knight of the St. Michael’s Council. Additionally, he has serves on the Sam Houston State University Alumni Association Board of Directors as well as a primary member of the University’s 10 year Futures Development program.
BG(R) Mills was selected a Sam Houston State University Distinguished Alumni in 2017. He was also voted into the Inaugural class of the US Army ROTC Hall of Fame in 2016. Since 2021 has severed on the Board of Directors of The Warrior Refuge Veterans Support Facility in West Columbia, TX.
A native Texan, Mr. Mills holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement and Police Science from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Science in National Security and Strategic Studies from U.S. Naval War College. BG(R) Mills and his wife Charlotte reside in Damon, Texas. They have two sons who are Senior commissioned officers serving in the U.S. Army.
